Extreme Tax Masters
Do you have what it takes to become the ultimate tax master?
This is a silly visual novel game I made for Nicole He's EXTREME Stream from March 2021. While the theme I was supposed to go for was "EXTREME" I thought it'd be funny to make a game that juxtaposed the incredibly mundane with an extreme aesthetic (specifically: explosions). This is what I ultimately made.
(By the way, if you're getting performance issues in FireFox on Linux, please use Chrome. As a Firefox user, I know it's annoying to be told that, but it seems like a problem with Pixi.js + Linux + Firefox that causes weird performance issues. I hate it)
Controls:
At the start of the game, you can use the keyboard to input your name. Select your pronouns with the mouse afterward.
Mainly use the mouse to advance text and select options, Visual Novel style.
For doing Tax Work, use the mouse and keyboard together to clear the tax forms and deductions from the screen.
Credits:
Features the songs "Connected" and "Pixel War 1" by Abstraction.
Also features the song 『ありふれた一コマ』by TAM MUSIC FACTORY.
Credits song is "Credits" from the Petscop Soundtrack.
I'm using a whole lot of stock art that's probably not completely royalty free... whoopsey.

best game ever, i wish taxes was real
Every time I click to go into the tutorial at the beginning the screen goes black and nothing happens. If I skip the tutorial the same thing happens right after talking to the first client. I'd love to play the game but it's just not working on my computer :(
That was fun! Tried the different routes, favourite line is "... we should be getting back to work, thanks for explaining the meme to me.." which is about as cursed a sentence as is possible. Poor Karen.
This game is hilarious! I got a good ending (maybe even the good ending?!) and had fun doing it :D
